The COVID-19 crisis affects us all in different ways. At the Y, we have spent the last 170 years trying to encourage and inspire everyone to reach their full potential, thrive and contribute to their community. But we can’t do it alone! We need your help!
Being active is great for your physical and mental health! Our instructors have come together to offer daily virtual workouts for free to keep our communities active and healthy, even if we have to stay at home. These workouts are posted on Facebook everyday!
Family and Youth Support
On top of creating fun and useful content for families, our child development, school success, TeenZone and C-Vert teams have been keeping contact with their participants online to support their studies and help them succeed at school and in life, despite the crisis.
Seniors are particularly vulnerable in this current crisis, especially if they are alone and far from their family. This is why our social workers have been staying in touch with them over the phone and through videoconferencing. Plus, the Saint-Laurent Y team has created a food assistance program for more than 300 vulnerable seniors in the neighbourhood!
Assistance for People Experiencing Homelessness
When you’re not at home, physical distancing can be quite the challenge. This is why we have set up a temporary women’s shelter at the Downtown YMCA, we are distributing lunchboxes and essential supplies in different neighbourhoods in the city, and, every day, our street workers are making sure that no one is left behind.
