Nominate yourself or others for a YMCA Peace Medal

Every year, the YMCAs of Québec celebrates individuals, groups and corporations who demonstrate vision, creativity and an extraordinary commitment to making our communities, our country or our world more peaceful and just.

With peace as their main focus, these people invest tremendous energy in bringing it to life. Their work inspires us and they deserve to be recognized. 

The 2022 Peace Medals ceremony will honour them at a gala dinner benefitting the YMCA’s kids, teens, and families.

Submitting a nomination

Categories

Nominees
(groups or individuals) must fall into one of the following categories:

  • Youth Peacemaker (for young people aged 25 and under)
  • Individual for Peace
  • Organization for Peace
  • Corporate Initiative for Peace

Selection process

The Selection Committee will review the nominations according to selection criteria.

Awards

All laureates will receive a pin, a certificate, and a Peace Medal.

Criteria

Nominees will be considered on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Role in developing a culture of peace
  • Peacemaking and rallying action
  • Support of partners and/or the community
  • Scope, duration and impact of the action
  • Time and energy dedicated to the action
 

Examples of peacemaking projects or actions:

  • Peace awareness campaigns
  • Implementing programs that combat discrimination and bullying among youth
  • Workshops or activities that foster conflict resolution or prevention through dialogue, mediation, negotiation or reconciliation
  • Organizing or actively participating in peaceful demonstrations
  • Petitions or other initiatives against violence, etc.

The YMCAs of Québec recognize the essential contribution of women, Indigenous People, visible or ethnic minorities, people with disabilities and people of all sexual orientations and gender identities, and encourage all people to send in a nomination.

People and groups who have received a Peace Medal have come from all
