This year, your participation is more important than ever!

For the past 33 years, the YMCA Peace Medals have honoured citizens and companies who contribute to building more united and harmonious communities. This year, the pandemic has forced The YMCAs of Québec Foundation to reconsider the classic traditional gala format, replacing it instead with a virtual celebration to honour the winners. Nevertheless, the objective remains the same.  This event also raises funds to help young people succeed in school as well as in life. Now more than ever, young people need you!

Pressures exacerbated by the Crisis

We have all experienced a lot of upheaval over the last few months, and young people, while resilient, have been particularly hard hit, losing not only several months of school and their social networks, but often even adults they trusted. The Y is therefore working with them to rebuild, one young person at a time: not only through school success programs and TeenZones, but most importantly through caring and attentive staff and volunteers who support, encourage and motivate them.

Affecting Concrete Change on a Daily Basis

More than ever, public support can make a huge difference in a teen’s life. Anyone who comes to the Y to attend online classes because they lack Internet access at home, is someone who perseveres. When that someone joins a virtual game hosted by a TeenZone counsellor, he or she connects with a trusted adult, to whom they can then turn when things get tough either at home or at school.

I have been involved in the YMCAs of Québec Foundation since 2013, because I share the same values of caring, inclusion and solidarity. For me, giving back is synonymous with the gift that keeps on giving. Each year, I look forward to celebrating the new laureates. In the context of the pandemic, we will be doing it a little differently this year, but this celebration is still just as important, and our support is more essential than ever.
